Add modules? can't figure how to add ngx_http_core_module

Hi

I want to add the "ngx_http_core_module" module. I understand that I'll have to remove and reinstall the NGINX module
Do I have to download its source somehow, compile it separately and configure it into nginx?
Would glad for an explaination.
