401 error on first prompt

Hello,

I log 401 errors in a file to use it with fail2ban.
I noticed that on the first login/passwd prompt i got a 401 error, even if i have enter a correct login/password or push cancel.

I don't think this behavior is correct. Is it a bug or did i miss something ? I run nginx/1.16.1
